Ballinkeele provides perfect Country Guest House Accommodation in Co Wexford, Ireland for the garden lover. The extensive gardens at Ballinkeele as well as numerous Gardens to Visit or Tour in the area ensure gardening enthusiasts have plenty to see and do.
As you drive up the avenue to Ballinkeele House, you will pass the stables and yard on your right, where Frigate, the first mare to win the Grand National back in 1889, was bred and trained. At the back of the house there are three fields, which were once all one and known as the racecourse, it was here that Frigate, Gunboat and many others were trained.
Further along the avenue you will pass large rhododendrons, fully grown monkey puzzles and one of the recently reclaimed small ponds, with a restored walk and garden, seating, more planting in progress.

Margaret’s garden, was originally a ha-ha, which led through bridle paths, around the small pond to the small walled-in garden. This in turn is joined to the large walled-in garden but unfortunately is no longer kept up due to lack of man power. At one time the estate employed 10 gardeners, 8 stable-yard workers and 15 workers on the land!
Why not stroll around the garden or play croquet down by the greenhouse or go further round the pond and down by the yard and up to the old castle (or keep) on the rise in the lawn field, which we think was built as a folly.
